Creating the thumbnail for this video was insanely difficult, I had to take MANY photos before I got something that looked remotely decent. The image above is the Photoshop document I created testing out many different thumbnail designs.

I experimented with making the tablet glow on the desk around the tablet but it was too dark and just never looked right (looked like a crappy glow effect). In the final three thumbnails, I used the same red image on the screen of the tablet to light up the wall which looked absolutely sweet. In the past I would’ve just faked it like I did in my MacOS Sonoma video but it definitely feels more rewarding (and looks better) doing it for real.

Lighting the tablet itself was INSANELY difficult, I had to prop a light on top of an Xbox Series X mini fridge and angle the light right above the tablet. If I pointed the light too directly at the tablet it would light up the wall removing the red colour so finding a balance for that was very difficult.

Of course, not everything seen in the thumbnail is real however. The images above demonstrate how I took a section of the tablet from another photo, warped the perspective and overlayed it on the other photo. This allowed me to maintain the detail of the camera module while using the photo that I liked. If you can’t get it right in the photo shoot, you can always fake it afterwards!

The results of the thumbnail test showed that the thumbnail with the text positioned on top won compared to the more traditional frokfrdk thumbnails.
