CRT Boi V4

This is V4 of CRT Boi, the profile picture for frokfrdk. I created this image entirely within Procreate.
The main objective of this version of CRT Boi was to make it more visible at smaller sizes, V3 looked way too muddy and unreadable at smaller sizes. This is due to the poorly done glitch effect, the dark oversaturated blue jumper, and the artwork itself looking rather barren. To fix this, instead of starting fresh I actually began by reopening the project for V3 and began editing that.
Editing V3 #
The first thing I edited were the lines, I changed the linework of V3 to become thicker, making the image easier to see. I also increased the size of the eyes for the first time, which looks strange at first but you get used to it. The size increase of the face especially helps to make the image more readable at smaller sizes. I kept a few elements from V3 such as the CRT screen itself but the rest of the colouring was redone. I changed the angle of the lighting to make way more sense (lit from the front instead of the right) which helps fix readablity issues with the image and just straight up looks better. The jumper colour has been brightened making it not look so sickly and muddy, and the rim lighting and shading as been drawn neater than last time.
Glitch Effect #
Typically with CRT Boi, the glitch effect is created with Procreate’s built in glitch effect. This time I created it myself. I used two different brushes, one to create the glitch effect and the other to create a subtle glow. I initially wanted to choose either one but they looked cool blended together so I went with that.
Background #
I have always struggled to come up with backgrounds for CRT Boi, each one before just being a placeholder until I come up with something better. This time around, creating a background actually came rather easy. I played around with some of the brushes in Procreate and found a nebula one, after playing around with the colours I found blue to look the best. I actually feel that this looks incredible and matches very well, for the first time (since maybe V2) I am actually happy with the background! This is also extermely fitting that while I was coming up with the background, there was an aroura happening above Adelaide (of course not visible to the naked eye but visible through smartphone cameras) which just so happens to be a fun coincidence.
Summary #
I don’t really see what I could do for a potential V5, I think CRT Boi is in a good spot right now. Pudding.
